More terminals “all screen” by Vivo. If we recently remembered the Vivo Nex and its removable front camera, now the manufacturer presents a new concept of mobile that represents that we can see in the next phones all manufacturer’s screen: the Vivo Apex 2019.
The presentation has been a few moments ago in China, confirming the arrival of this second Apex that was announced for today January 24th. So, after a first Vivo Apex that featured that retractable camera and a Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition with a double screen and a curious hoop that has not followed that path, the Apex of 2019 arrives with just frames and fingerprints anywhere in the world. The screen.
The Living of the era without cables
Vivo has once again resorted to presenting a concept to show its capabilities. Last year he did it anticipating what would be his first (and at the moment only) mobile with a retractable camera. Will Vivo Apex 2019 be the predecessor of a new Vivo Nex 2? It is soon to know, but what we have seen for now is a functional prototype of a mobile phone that incorporates fingerprint reading integrated into the screen, but anywhere in the panel.
What we have also seen by the presentation and streaming of this user who has it is that it has a totally clean design. A box without interruptions or additions, without buttons or ports, but we also do not see front camera module or a sliding panel like the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3.
Does not it have a front camera? No, and probably it is because it is a concept and not a product per se , and also seeing the camera interface it did not present anything more than the shoot button. In fact, all the specifications have not been specified nor has there been any talk of launching, as was the case with the Vivo Apex presentation during the 2018 MWC.
What we know about this Vivo Apex 2019 is that it incorporates the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 855, with 12 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 512 GB. Instead of physical buttons, there are two sensitive areas at the edges to regulate the volume, and the receiver does not exist as in the Vivo NEX, using the same technology to emit the sound.
An interesting concept, a real advance?
In this way, Vivo would have given us an appetizer of what we can see in their terminals, just as happened with that first Apex. Maybe that’s why we did not see a Vivo Nex 2 as such and it was named with an “Edition”, so it would not be surprising for precedents that we see a new mobile (no prototype) with at least part of what this Apex 2019 has shown.
It is quite interesting that unibody design, that being fair is not the first time we see since it was recently shown to us by Meizu with the Meizu Zero, a mobile with ceramic housing with Meizu’s mSound technology for audio, (a piezoelectric system transmits vibrations to the panel), fingerprint reader integrated into the screen and eSIM, hence there is no tray for physical cards. In fact, these phones are the foretaste of a totally wireless future since yes or yes they have to work without the need of connections, this is wireless charging, Bluetooth headsets and others, without options.
It will be necessary to see all this in a commercial product; something that at least we can test well tested to see if these touch buttons work well in the long run and are somewhat more comfortable than the squeezable edges we have seen in some HTC and Pixel. And above all that the reading of prints is as effective as comfortable, since everything is not in the reading area and as we found in the Vivo Nex sensitivity is key to a good experience, especially considering that without a front camera either there would be facial recognition. Although it is very surprising that today, with the weight of the mobile phone and the importance of the selfie worldwide and in Asia, a mobile phone went on the market without a front camera.
