In the Smartphone industry there is always some competition to win and some feature to get before others, and beyond the holes in the screen are the 5G and flexible phones. And now it is Huawei who wants to get ahead by stating that he will present a folding 5G mobile phone at MWC 2019.

We have already seen concepts and products with some of these characteristics, for example the foldable mobile FlexPai, which inspired us a list of aspects to be corrected for the upcoming flexible mobiles. We still do not know if the Huawei will be the same or not, since for the moment it is an announcement by its CEO.

Kirin 980, a superior 5G modem and a flexible panel

The communication has been issued by Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, taking advantage of the fact that his 5G Balong 5000 modem is now ready and is capable of supporting speeds of up to 6 Gbps. Something transmitted by Gizmochina , for whom we also know that the flexible terminal will include the Kirin 980, the most powerful processor in the house to date that premiered the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro .

Apparently the deployed panel will be about 8 inches, so that once folded would be a diagonal of about 5 inches. If so, it will probably be similar in size to the FlexPai that we reminded you before, whose extended screen is 7.8 inches.

This fits in with the first announcement they already made about the arrival of a flexible 5G mobile in 2019, when they also anticipated the launch of their Balong chip. But it does not just coincide with the information about the arrival of a 5G mobile in June, although in this case they did not talk about a flexible mobile and it could be a second 5G model.

On the Balong 5000 comment that it is Huawei’s first 5G modem, which is being incorporated into the new Huawei 5G CPE Pro router. It is the first modem capable of supporting the autonomous 5G network architecture (SA) and not autonomous ( NSA), so that it covers the entire spectrum of networks, and if confirmed the specifications would also be the first to reach 4.6 Gbps in the sub-6Ghz band and 6.5 Gbps in mmWave, also having support for V2X (vehicle-to-everything) and low latency communication.

From the saying to the fact we have the MWC

If so, and this advertisement materialized in a product at the MWC, Huawei would be ahead of Samsung in relation to these two careers (flexible mobile and 5G). Of the South Koreans it is rumored that there will be a fourth Samsung Galaxy S10 with 5G , but that it would not arrive until months after the MWC, event for which we expect to see three new flagships of the company .

Of course, among these two has been Samsung who has done more than words with regard to a folding device. In December they showed us a seemingly functional prototype of folding device, but they did not specify an exit date beyond communicating that we would see it in the present 2019.

Huawei Mate 20 after a month of use

The last to join the car have been Xiaomi , also talking about folding phones, but they have not indicated a release date explaining that there is still development pending. And speaking of 5G will have to see who is definitely the first to launch a compatible phone , given that until now this term has been used as a resource without actually being 5G mobile phones , but it is true that with the chips presented and launched in 2019 this reality is somewhat closer.
