Google presented on Tuesday its new Smartphone models, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, whose main feature is the commitment to the full integration of artificial intelligence in the camera.
As Efe was able to verify this Tuesday, the new device of the American multinational presents a very high quality camera that, when it reaches the limitations of traditional photography, uses artificial intelligence to go one step further.
This is the case, for example of the ‘night mode’, new in the Pixel and that allows taking quality snapshots with a lot of precision in the details in low light environments, without using flash, thanks to the computational photography.
Something similar happens with the use of zoom, with which a lot of quality is usually lost. However, Pixel 3 uses the information it has – from its own or from other photographs – to recreate details with precision.
Another novelty in the camera is the Photobooth mode for selfies, with which the camera recognizes facial expressions and, once the button is pressed, takes the photograph just at the moment when the subject (s) is smiling.
There is also a multi-shot function that allows you to take several photographs of the same scene in three seconds, and then immediately suggests to the user which one to keep based on criteria such as composition, the expression of the photographed or the absence of movement.
Improvements for selfies
Google sources explained to Efe that one of the main problems they identified in making selfies is that users are not able to include all those people who would like to show the landscape, apart from human faces.
Therefore, Pixel 3 introduces a large angle in the front camera of the phone that gives much more breadth to the photographs.
Continuing with its total commitment to artificial intelligence, Pixel 3 integrates Google Lens – which was already available as an option in the previous model – directly on the camera.
That is, when the user directs the camera to, for example, a chair, the phone will immediately recognize the model, search it on the internet and offer information related to the object such as stores in which it can be purchased, prices, similar models, etc.
According to Google, this is a functionality that gives very accurate results in the case of clothing – brands, models, etc. – and can also be used for plants that want to identify.
The phone also comes with new augmented reality content: drawings and emoticons that are integrated into the snapshots or videos, and that can replicate the expressions of users.
For example, if a person smiles they can make appear next to their face a nice cloud or a cat that also makes the same gesture, or that they change their expression depending on what the photographed person does.
Reject suspicious calls
Beyond the camera, Pixel 3 has the option of automatically recognizing and rejecting suspicious calls as phone scams, and it also has a wireless charger available to be purchased separately if desired.
Pixel 3 and its ‘big brother’, the XL, have the same features, are available in white, black and pink, and provide for the first time in the case of Google phones the increasingly common curved edge-to-edge screen in other brands.
